In late summer 2012, Carstensen Contracting Inc., Pipestone, MN, learned of an opportunity to bid on a water pipe-laying project in Oklahoma. Prior to bidding the project, Carstensen Contracting searched for a screener crusher bucket that would work in the rocky terrain and allow them to reuse the material on site, thus allowing them to underbid other contractors who would have had to haul in bedding material.

A recent experiment conducted aboard NASA’s rover, Curiosity, involved drilling holes into the red surface of Mars for mineral analysis. The results of the mineral tests showed that more than three billion years ago, Mars was a significantly warmer and wetter world. Having a warmer and wetter climate would have made Mars more habitable earlier in its life.

Now available from Case Construction Equipment are the Case Smart Digging Systems components, including new pin-on buckets, coupler buckets, the Case Multi-Fit Coupler and the SmartFit bucket teeth system.

With the PCF34 and PCF64 flat-top plate compactor attachments, Bobcat excavator operators can compact down in trenches without leaving the cab and reduce the need for a person working in the trench, increasing jobsite safety and operator comfort.

The Dromone Multi Lock Couplert allows operators to safely complete attachment changes without leaving the cab, and is specifically designed to address market concerns regarding coupler safety in relation to operator and site safety. The Multi Lock Coupler can be utilized in a wide range of ways with a wide range of machine types, allowing greater versatility.

Day 2 at ICUEE started out chilly but clear and sunny, and the convention breathed a collective sigh of relief. Since it was a little slow to warm up, though, most of Underground Construction started the day off indoors.
