New Software Sheds Light On Rehab Method Selection

Software to assist engineers in evaluating the numerous trenchless rehabilitation methods for underground sanitary storm sewer infrastructure is now available from NASSCO.

Software to assist engineers in evaluating the numerous trenchless rehabilitation methods for underground sanitary storm sewer infrastructure is now available from NASSCO (the National Association of Sewer Service Companies).

Employing its comprehensive database, TAG-R (Trenchless Assessment Guide for Rehabilitation) calculates the best rehabilitation procedure based on specifications of a project.

“TAG-R is an easy-to-use, interactive software program that contains the attributes of more than 80 products and processes used in the trenchless rehabilitation of pipelines and manholes,” said Irv Gemora, NASSCO, executive director. “It allows a designer to insert project specific details and see products and processes that may be appropriate. The information displayed to the designer includes product advantages and limitations.”

TAG-R was developed by NASSCO in conjunction with the Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at Louisiana Tech University. TAG-R is similar to the TAG developed by the TTC for the National Utility Contractors Association to address trenchless installation of new pipe. TAG-R covers repair and rehabilitation of common components found in municipal pipeline collection and distribution systems, including gravity sewers and drainage pipes, pressure pipes, laterals, manholes and vaults.

Filling a need

Gemora said the need for TAG-R became clear when it was apparent that many specifying engineers were unaware of the many rehabilitation products and processes available, and that distinctions between different products often are not clear.

TAG-R software is available for sale on the NASSCO website. The NASSCO member price is $100, and the cost for nonmembers is $195. It is also included in the course materials provided to those who attend the NASSCO Inspector Training and Certification Program courses.

NASSCO is a national organization composed of several hundred members representing rehabilitation industry manufacturers and suppliers, municipalities and utility districts, engineers and contracting firms.
