TWD Board Approves Nearly $188 Million for Water, Wastewater Projects

Since early April, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approved financial assistance totaling $187,857,500 for 22 water and wastewater system projects. Among the largest of these projects are:

$64,685,000 from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) to the City of Houston (Harris County) to replace approximately 640,000 linear feet of pipeline in its wastewater system.

$30 million from CWSRF to the Sienna Plantation Municipal Utility District No. 1 (Fort Bend County) for constructing a regional wastewater treatment plant in the south service area and new regional lift station.

$21,032,600 to the City of Cisco (Eastland County), including an $8.695-million loan and $6,464,900 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) for a 2-million-gallon-per-day surface water treatment plant to replace the one destroyed by June 2016 flooding; and $1.55-million loan and $4,322,700 in loan forgiveness from CWSRF to construct two new lift stations and a wastewater treatment plant capable of producing reuse effluent.

$17.030 million from CWSRF to the City of Stephenville (Erath County) to finance improvements to its eastside sewer project and extend sewer lines from the wastewater treatment plant.

$10.770 million from DWSRF to the city of Elmendorf (Bexar County) for planning, acquisition, design and construction of a new water supply and treatment system, which also includes installing new “smart” water meters.

TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB also administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
