Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) received two Project of the Year awards from the American Public Works Association-Texas chapter.

One project, Houston Emergency Water Supply Shutdown, was recognized under the “Disaster or Emergency Construction/Repair” category. It involved working with the City of Houston and Coastal Water Authority (CWA) to perform an emergency leak repair on a CWA, 102-inch, prestressed concrete cylinder pipe, “C-line,” that feeds almost two-thirds of Houston’s total water demand.

The other project, Rehabilitation of Above-Grade Crossings, also with the City of Houston, won under the “Structures” category. As part of Houston’s Surface Water Transmission Program, LAN conducted a field assessment and provided recommendations for the rehabilitation of 21 large-diameter (24 to 60 inches) crossings, overcoming challenges such as the age of the crossings (the oldest was 60-plus years old), accessibility, surface preparation, and the presence of lead.
