In Memoriam: Richard Kinsel, Jr
In MemoriamRichard Kinsel, Jr., died Oct. 2, 2018, in Friendswood, Texas.
He founded Kinsel Industries Inc., a Houston-area civil construction firm primarily involved in water/sewer business, in 1976. Under his leadership, the company became a pioneer in trenchless pipe construction/rehabilitation technology for infrastructure development, the largest pipe-bursting company in the world and a leading micro tunneling contractor.
One example of Kinsel is accomplishments was successfully installing 4 million feet of 6- to 96-inch diameter pipe underground, coast-to-coast, using directional drilling technology.
The company’s other contracting business involved heavy civil work, such as highway, bridge and airport construction. He is credited with building much of the Beltway in South Houston, as well as other highways and bridges in the area.
After selling Kinsel Industries to Insituform Technologies in 2001, he continued to be an accomplished entrepreneur as a real-estate developer in the Houston area, and founded and operated businesses in the construction materials, oil field services and logistics industries.
